(First the German part, English below)

Vor einem Monat war ich in meinem geliebten Schottland. Auf der Zugreise von Aberdeen nach Glasgow habe ich das gemacht, was ich immer im Zug mache: Fotostrecken aus dem Fenster heraus. Dabei ist mir zum ersten Mal aufgefallen, wie unglaublich viel Platz der Himmel im Zugfenster eigentlich einnimmt. Das sind ja ungefähr vier Fünftel! Bei der Bahnstrecke, die ich gefahren bin, ist das extrem, denn sie verläuft in der ersten Stunde direkt an der Ostküste Schottlands. Ein malerischer Landstrich! Hier sind ein paar meiner Eindrücke – die sich bestimmt in Zukunft auch mal auf einigen Bildern wiederfinden werden.

About a month ago I attended a conference in Scotland. On my train journey from Aberdeen to Glasgow I did what I do pretty often these days when riding the train: I shot a series of photos, thus documenting the changing light and scenery as I went along. And it was then that I realised for the first time that the sky takes up most of the space in a train window. In some photos it’s up to four fifths! Going along the east coast exacerbates this effect, of course. The coastal areas are such a picturesque part of Scotland! Here are a few of the many photos I took that day. I bet some of these skys will make an appearance in paintings to come!

Das Schiff war (aus einem anderen Blickwinkel) leuchtend rot und stach daher aus den vielen Blautönen extrem hervor. Als ich später die Fotos angeguckt habe, war ich überrascht, wie klein es eigentlich war. Hätte ich diese Seelandschaft vor Ort gemalt, wäre mein rotes Schiff sicher überproportional groß geworden.

About the ship in the above photo: From another angle it was bright red and thus really stood out in the seascape like a sore thumb (or a red ship in a sea of blue, hehe). I was really surprised looking at the photos afterwards to see how small the ship had actually been; simply because of the colour red which dominates every other colour it had appeared very large within the composition.
