Me drinking sherry.

Letzten Freitag sind wir spontan abend essen gegangen – das tat gut! Ich hatte an dem Tag einen Vortrag in Kassel und war ein bisschen k.o. und hatte deswegen keine Lust zum Kochen. (Das und die Wäsche sind meine Aufgaben; mein Mann macht alles andere.) Wir sind in ein uriges Brauhaus hier in Lüneburg gegangen (für Ortskenner: zum Mälzer), wo ich unter anderem einen Sherry geschlürft habe. Mein Schatz hat dabei ein Foto von mir gemacht, das ich hier als Vorlage benutzt habe. Weil ich gerade so wenig Zeit habe, habe ich mich entschieden, das Bild mit Gouache zu malen. Tatsächlich hat es zwischendrin ein paar Tage rumgestanden, aber weil Gouache gewissermaßen immer „offen“ ist, weil die unteren Schichten beim Malen wieder angelöst werden, konnte ich es heute fertigstellen.
We spontaneously went out for dinner last night – which was great! I had given a talk in Kassel that day and was a bit knackered and therefore not keen on doing anything in the kitchen in the evening. (Cooking and laundry are my responsibilities; my husband does most everything else.) So we went to a real cosy brew pub here in Luneburg (for those in the know: to Mälzer’s) where I consumed a lovely sherry, amongst other things. My sweetie took a photo of me sipping the sherry and I used it as a photo reference. Because I don’t have much time for painting at the moment I opted for gouache as a medium. It’s a lovely medium as it is always „open“, as they say; the paint that’s already on the paper dissolves again with a wet brush and so you can change the painting easily, e.g. work smooth colour transitions and so on. I’m glad I finished this one today.
