Vor zehn Jahren habe ich mir an den Ufern dieses Sees auf der Südinsel Neuseelands mit meiner Freundin Verena die Zähne geputzt, bevor wir uns für die (ungemütliche) Nacht in meinen kleinen Mitsubishi verkrümelt haben. Lake Tekapo ist leuchtend türkis, wunderschön – und im Dunkeln einfach nur angsteinflößend und gewaltig. Die Bergwinde sind es auch, und so standen wir am Ufer mit den Zahnbürsten im Mund, während große, dunkle Wellen an unsere Beine anbrandeten. Unvergesslich. Ein paar Monate später war ich mit meinem Dad nochmal da, dann bei Tage und nicht so tollem Wetter. Ten years ago I brushed my teeth at the shores of this lake on the South Island of New Zealand with my friend Verena before withdrawing for the night into the (uncomfortable) shelter of my little Mitsubishi car. Lake Tekapo is brilliantly turquoise and beautiful to behold in the sunshine – and frighteningly vast and mighty in the dark. Mighty are also the mountain winds, and so we stood there with our toothbrushes in our mouths whilst large, dark waves crashed around our legs. Unforgettable. A few months later I came by these shoes again, this time with my dad and in not-so-great weather conditions.
