Skizzenbuch 22.1.16

This blog post is about gouache which is opaque watercolour; in Germany, we use it in schools a lot, so everyone knows it. But not many know how truly great it is as a painting medium! I have been inspired to use it some more by James Gurney who is an ace illustrator! A painter friend also recommended this medium for quick landscape sketches. I recently needed to just such a one; I’ll write about it in my next post. So here is a page form my sketchbook painted with gouache. I especially love the brown paper. To be honest, right now I am so excited about this sketching/painting thing that it’s hard to motivate myself to do all the other things that need to be done today (grocery run, laundry and similarly fascinating stuff). By the by, I have a lot of unfinished stuff in the works. Drying time for the oil paintings has increased massively now that it’s so cold and humidity is higher, and all of the paintings need at least one more layer, if not two. Soon I should be able to show you a sunset with snow, a sunrise over the river and a funny cow!
