Neanderthal-girl1

Neanderthal girl #1. Watercolours on Hahnemühle paper, 24 x 30 cm.

I recently shared my enthusiasm about the Neanderthal Museum near Dusseldorf which is really great, and I also showed the sketches of Neanderthal people (wax figures) I made there. Shortly after writing that blog post I decided to use the sketch of the cute Neanderthal girl for a series of instructive watercolour paintings (instructive for myself). I have always wanted to work through something in a series, and now I’m doing it! Inspired by Ewa’s amazing paintings I went for rendering shade differently this time: not in a shadow colour but in an more chromatic shade and darker value of the local colour. I am pleased with the effect of that, I have to say! I will try other colours on the other paintings which I have already prepared. It’s an exciting process!

Aufregend!
