Schleuse-Lock

I went painting with a friend last night and we had a fabulous time! We took a mixed salad, lovely fresh bread, some goat cheese and cider with us, and once we had found our spot near the old lock on the river we started off with that. Bliss! My paintings of the evening were not great though because I didn’t make a great effort to find the perfect composition (and I’m blocked an20160629_191805yway somehow – not a great time for landscapes). Still, I liked some of the colours on my second painting which had the lock as its subject, and I therefore started working into it with watercolour pencils and oil pastels. A glorious sunset at around 10 p.m. forced us to interrupt and I finished the painting this morning. Primer, graphite pencil and gouache plus a cut-out of the relevant bit of cartographical information rounded this one off. The finished product is a bit strange to me because I have never done anything like it. I might do it more often now though.
