Reference photos are just that: photos which help you in composing a painting. This means that much of the information contained in the photo can be adapted to suit your pupose in terms of colour, composition and overall mood. Musing on this point yesterday and seeing the awesome potential to create wild paintings based on ordinary scenes motivated me to paint a subject I have painted before in a different way, with free alterations. So I went back to a field sketch I did the weekend before last and a photo taken on location and adapted both a little bit. Not as much as I thought I would, to be honest: the main difference is in the background. A third attempt might be in order so as to really come up with something wild 🙂
Fotovorlagen sind eigentlich nur Anhaltspunkte, die bei der Komposition eines Bildes helfen. Das bedeutet, dass man den Großteil der Bildinformation an seine eigenen kreativen Bedürfnisse, was Farbharmonie, Stimmung und Komposition angeht, anpassen kann. Während ich darüber nachdachte, kam mir die Idee, ein mir bereits bekanntes Motiv einfach noch einmal und etwas anders, wilder und freier, zu malen. Ich habe mir eine Feldskizze vom vorletzten Wochenende und ein Foto vorgeknöpft und beide etwas verändert. Um ehrlich zu sein, bin ich nicht so weit gegangen, wie ich gehofft hatte. Eigentlich habe ich nur den Hintergrund verändert. Also muss ich vielleicht noch ein drittes Mal ran, um freier zu werden 🙂
