I had two doctor’s appointments the other morning and half an hour to spare in between. So I chose the path via the Glockenhof (Bell Square – not sure why it’s called that) so that I might sketch it. The awning of the big department store C&A gave me plenty of shelter from the inclement weather. I finished the pencil sketch on location and tinted it at home. I find that once I’ve sketched a place in detail I don’t even need a reference photo for colour notes. I took one but in the event didn’t refer to it at all during the painting stage.
Ich hatte neulich zwei Arzttermine hintereinander und eine halbe Stunde zum Rumtrödeln zwischendrin. Also bin ich über den Glockenhof gelaufen mit der Absicht, da was zu zeichnen. Das C&A-Vordach hat mich vor dem Regen geschützt und ich konnte eine ziemlich detailreiche Bleistiftzeichnung anfertigen. Zu Hause habe ich dann koloriert. Ich hatte zur HIlfestellung für die Farbtöne zwar ein Foto gemacht, aber meistens brauche ich das dann gar nicht. Wenn ich mir 30 Minuten lang (beim Skizzieren) einen Ort ganz genau angucke und innerhalb von 24 h in die Farbe gehe, dann weiß ich noch ziemlich genau, wie’s da aussah.
