The first time I sketched this street I was standing at the other end looking right along the street at the ‚ordinary‘ eye level. I love that kind of view, and I also didn’t mind that my gaze (and the future viewer’s, as well) comes to an abrupt stop at the old city wall. To the contrary, I thought it rather neat how the big trees were towering protectively over this tiny street. This time I was standing on that very wall and looked down into and along the street. This is also a lovely view, I think, because the City Council of Luneburg makes an appearance, too. Since the Cinty Council is one of the landmark buildings here, this view makes it easier to identify the location. The CCTV camera also helps with that – the (seemingly very small) local prison is right here in the centre of town. Most of this was done on location; the only non-pleinair addition is the bit of texture in the foreground for which I used gray Tombow markers.

Burmeister-oben

Burmeisterstraße II. Sennelier watercolours on Fabriano rough paper, 20 x 40 cm. Detail/Ausschnitt.
