As I said in yesterday’s post, I’m still riding on the wave of recent inspiration. Yesterday afternoon, the currents carried me to a little street which I seem to paint all the time – Baumstraße in Luneburg. ‚Tis because one of the doctors I see a lot is right around the corner. Anyway, I tried to capture the light again, obviously. In my plein-air attempt I went for the bold method of plunging most of the painting into darkness so that the lights would shine. This works quite well, but in hindsight the approach seemed a bit heavy-handed to me and I started to dislike all that neutral tinted darkness. So this morning I tried a lighter approach in which I didn’t only change the lighting situation a bit, but also the figures in the painting. I am quite fond of the figures but I feel I shouldn’t have lost the light on the right-hand wall which was so prominent in my plein-air painting. I feel I need to split the difference between these two attempts and go for a third one. I’ll post that one tomorrow.

# 1: En plein air.

# 2
