I usually don’t post on Sundays, but because my website has been down a bit lately due to a server error – apologies for any inconvenience here – I am two days late with these drawings. And I can’t wait a day longer. This is because lucky me was able to attend the Salt City Swingband at one of their rehearsals and I had an absolute blast. This band is a newish and really great swing band (surprise!) who plays acustic tunes from the 1920s, 30s and 40s at swing dance events. I heard and sketched the band without the violin, i.e. with the bassoon, the concert bass, the rhythm guitar and the piano. Next time I might catch the violin, too, though I know already that the positions of the hands on that instrument drive me crazy (very difficult!); but I also know that the band’s sound will be even better with the violin! Normalerweise stelle ich sonntags keinen Beitrag ein, aber aufgrund von Serverproblemen bin ich in den letzten Tagen nicht gut an die Seite herangekommen. Ich hoffe, niemand wurde dadurch zu sehr beeinträchtigt! Und jetzt, wo wieder alles am Start ist, kann ich nicht warten und muss diese Skizzen hochladen. Ich hatte nämlich das große Glück, bei einer Bandprobe der Salt City Swingband dabei sein zu dürfen. Das ist eine neuere Band, die, man glaubt es kaum, Swingmusik der 20er, 30er und 40er auf Tanzveranstaltungen spielt und so richtig toll ist! Ich habe sie in der Besetzung Fagott-Konzertbass-Rhythmusgitarre-Klavier gesehen und gehört, das war Spitze. Die Violine fehlte, ist aber hoffentlich beim nächsten Mal dabei, wenn ich sie zeichnen darf. Die Handhaltung beim Geigespielen ist zwar super schwierig und hat mich schon einmal zum Verzweifeln gebracht…aber der Sound der Band ist dann noch besser!
