I was so enchanted with the limited colour choice I worked with last week that I have decided to stick with this principle of limiting myself for a while. This week I have locked my palette in with the following three pigments: yellow ochre, burnt sienna, cobalt blue. I came across this combination in an article about the Australian watercolourist Julian Bruere in The Art of Watercolour. Bruere considers these three pigments as his bog standard paints, and as his work is really impressive I thought I’d try this combination, too. My little Sennelier travel palette happens to contain all three of these, so this week I will also paint with Sennelier paints – yet another test. Let’s see how it’ll go! Here are my colour strings and my first test painting.
Ich war so verzaubert von der reduzierten Palette, mit der ich letzte Woche gemalt habe, dass ich mich für eine Fortsetzung mit einer anderen Farbzusammenstellung entschieden habe. Diese Woche gibt es für mich nur: Lichter Ocker, Sienna gebrannt und Kobaltblau. Die Kombi habe ich mir angelesen in The Art of Watercolour; der australische Maler Julian Bruere betrachtet diese drei Pigmente als seine absoluten Grundfesten. Bruere ist echt gut, also muss an der Kombi was dran sein. Weil mein Sennelier-Minikasten der einzige ist, in dem ich alle drei Pigmente habe, teste ich zugleich diese Farben noch einmal gründlich. Mal sehen, wie’s ist! Der Anfang hat schon wieder großen Spaß gemacht. Hier ist meine Farbmischtabelle und das erste Testbild, Kuh im Morgenlicht.
