Die letzten paar Tage habe ich mich abends hingesetzt und Osterkarten angefertigt. Ich habe mich für ein ganz kleines Format und Aquarell entschieden, 10,5 x 8 cm, damit ich auch vor Ostern fertig werde. Gleichzeitig dachte ich mir allerdings auch, dass ich mal wirklich die lasierende Technik versuchen werde, wo im Prinzip die reinen Farben in ganz zarten Schichten übereinander gelagert werden und sich dadurch erst die Mischfarben ergeben. Die leuchten dann nämlich mehr. Und so hat doch jedes Bildchen eine Stunde gedauert – eine Stunde, die sich allerdings aus meiner Sicht lohnt! Hier sind ein paar Bilder vom Verlauf: Vorzeichnung, gelbe Lasierung, dann blaue Lasierung, um die Grüns zu erzeugen (Coelinblau für frisches Grün und Ultramarin für stumpfes), dann die Blüten mit Kadmiumrot und Magenta. Fertig ist die kleine Osterkarte!
The past few days I sat down in the evenings to make Easter greeting cards. I chose a small format (4 x 3.1 in) and watercolours as a medium, thinking that I’d thus be done in a jiffy. At the same time, however, I thought I’d really try to work with thin layers of primary colours this time rather than fully mixed colours so as to create more luminous hues. This does work, I think, but in the end opting for this technique results in a painstakingly slow process in which the layers are put on, left to dry, in order to put on more layers and so on. Each of the tiny paintings I have done so far has taken at least an hour. Here are a few images from last night’s session: the sketch, lemon yellow layer, blue layers, blossoms and the final result. Which will go into the post box today!

Lemon yellow layer, the focal blossom and the first few blue areas. Cerulean blue for the fresh greens and ultramarine for the duller greens.
The blossoms feature cad orange, cad red and magenta. Background bottom left is meant to offset against the orangeish blossoms; it consists of a layering of ultramarine and magenta.
