Diese Komposition sah ich eines Abends beim Hinübergleiten in den Schlaf vor meinem inneren Auge: der kleine Bonsai, welchen wir liebevoll „the little guy“ nennen, die Weinkiste, drei Eier. Was das alles bedeutet – keine Ahnung. Aber so wollte das Bild gemalt werden. Das war das erste Mal, dass ich auf diesem Wege zu einem Bild kam. Ich habe mich aus Zeitgründen für Gouache entschieden. Das Malen war wunderbar, denn Gouache ist einfach ein klasse Medium. Ich kann das gar nicht oft genug betonen. Wenn Du noch nie mit Gouache gemalt hast, musst Du es unbedingt mal ausprobieren! Ich habe das Bild hinterher mit Sprühlack lackiert (vier Schichten), was ich bei Gouachebildern besonders schön finde.
I saw this composition before my inner eye one evening as I was drifting asleep: the wee bonsai whom we call „the little guy“, the wine box, three eggs. I don’t know what it all means but that’s ok. It was the first time I came to an idea for a painting in this way and I think this is what makes this painting special to me. Because I needed this to be finished quickly I chose gouache as a medium. I consider myself an oil painter but I absolutely love using gouache and cannot recommend it often enough. if you haven’t tried gouache yet, give it a go! I spray-varnished the finished painting (four coats) which is always such a lovely finishing touch for gouache paintings.
