Zauberei!)

Yesterday, the best time to go painting in terms of my schedule for the day was around lunchtime. As it was really hot, I decided to find myself something nice to paint in the forest. I found a suitable spot pretty quickly, made a tonal sketch of a likely scene and set up my easel. After having quietly gone about my painting for a few minutes, the birds dared to start singing again – bliss! The light changed pretty quickly; I stuck to the tonal regime I had established in the sketch and was quite happy to be able to do that. Still, it was difficult mixing the shadow and light colours. Just as I wanted to stomp away from the easel frustratedly, I turned around (from afar) and realised that it is actually coming together quite nicely! That was a wonderful moment! (Aside: When showing this painting to my other half at home, I advised him to look at it from the other end of the room first and to only come close then. He really liked it from afar but not at all from close up and ended up asking me ‚how do you do that, paint something that looks really great from the distance and really shite from close up?‘. Magic!)

My set-up. The shadow moved away from me unfortunately.
