The last two weeks haven’t been easy in terms of painting. I literally couldn’t bring myself to take up a paint brush to start a new oil painting. I think I might put myself under too much pressure to use all my leisure time for painting. Other factors also come in, so – sigh. Drawing, fortunately, still works! This one is completely different from what I normally do: it’s an oil pastel drawing (oil pastels used to be my favourite medium, btw) on a sheet of cardboard which I first painted, covered with china paper and sealed with acrylic glue. Sadly I didn’t manage to make the underpainting part of the finished drawing in the way that the artist Alexandra Uhle manages to do it: she paints on printed fabrics and the patterns of the fabric become part of the finished painting. When I talked to her she said that the temptation is great to cover up the entire patterned canvas with paint. That’s the experience I made. Still, I like this drawing.
