Up in the North of West Germany the land is really flat and the skies are very wide. I am saying ‚West Germany‘ because it’s not like that in the East; there, you have lots of rolling hills. But not so where we live and even less so where we went last weekend. It is a simple and for many certainly a dull landscape. Yet there is something quiet and homy about it. This simple landscape doesn’t stress anybody out. (The wind might, but we were lucky. And I bought a very stylish beanie, too, which helped.) I always feel really at peace there. Because we visited with friends I wasn’t able to capture this ambience in proper plein-air paintings, but I at least managed to sneak in a few sketches: of the yacht harbour at Greetsiel, of the ordinary fields up North and of the tea museum in the town of Norden.
Oben im Norden von Niedersachsen sind die Himmel weit und die Felder flach. Ab und an mal eine Kuh oder ein Häuschen oder ein Fließ. Ansonsten ist es eine sehr einfache und in mancherlei Hinsicht sicher auch etwas fade Landschaft. Ich mag es aber im Norden, denn da ist es ruhig und irgendwie gemütlich, unstressig einfach. Ich komme da immer echt schnell runter. Weil wir bei unserem letzten Besuch in Ostfriesland am Wochenende bei Freunden waren, konnte ich nicht wirklich viel malen, aber ich habe ein paar Miniskizzen anfertigen können. Da hat eine so 10 Minuten gedauert, das konnte die Gemeinschaft gut vertragen. Oben ist die entsprechende Seite aus meinem Skizzenbuch.
