Harbinger. Ink and watercolour on 300 g/sqm torchon, 24 x 32 cm.

This monument was built in 1939 to honour of the cavalry regiments who had defended the town during WWI. It depicts a mounted orderly, hence the different kinds of bags on the saddle. Apparently, horse statues like this one are rare. Most of the time, horses in monuments are in a standing position, whilst this one is in mid-movement.

Dieses Denkmal wurde 1939 errichtet, um an die Dragoner zu erinnern, die im Ersten Weltkrieg die Stadt verteidigt haben. Es stellt einen Meldesoldaten dar; so erklären sich die verschiedenen Taschen am Sattel. Es gibt nicht viele Pferdedarstellungen wie diese. Meistens stehen Pferde in Denkmälern ja mit allen vier Beinen am Boden, wohingegen dieses mitten im Trab ist.

[…] A while ago I saw a lovely spring-time painting featuring a field of crocuses. Ever since I have been searching for one such field for myself so that I could paint it. Alas, I haven’t found one yet. There doesn’t seem to be a sizeable population of crocuses around anywhere near Luneburg.
