I am lagging behind with posts… good things have happened really recently, but I have to start where I left off (in August apparently) and work my way into the present from there. So here goes:

In August, my art club had a mini show on in public gardens in a nearby town. Five of us showed recent paintings with summery motives. I was on guard duty for one day, and as the weather looked promising I took my painting gear with me on the off chance that I might be able to paint in the gardens. Very few people came so I erected my easel near one of the apple trees and got going. After a quick sketch of the tree from a distance I started another more considered sketch of a bunch of apples. Two sketches in one day! Since I don’t normally have the opportunity to paint outdoors anymore this day provided a bountiful harvest for me! The apples I had to finish at home. For the longest time during painting I was convinced that the colours were totally off, and I continued to paint more of less out of habit. In the end though the apples do look like the shadowy apples I meant to paint. I suppose the take-home lesson of that experience for me is to try and stick with a painting until the end; it might be a keeper after all.
